Statement on the Majority of Elementary School Students Returning

Happy back-to-school for everyone returning to SFUSD schools today!

We are happy that the majority of elementary school students are being welcomed back to school. This is an important first step for our youngest learners. Unfortunately, SFUSD remains silent on plans for the vast majority of our middle and high school students to return to school, despite students’ and parents’ continued requests for a school reopening plan and a timeline. While the Board of Education has committed to a full return in the fall, they have not provided any actual plans for our middle and high schoolers to return. SFUSD’s silence on a reopening plan and timeline for our oldest students is deafening.

It has been too long since our kids have seen the inside of a classroom. This is the first time students are entering their classrooms after almost a year of zoom class. We must continue working towards comprehensive plans to safely reopen our schools for all students in all grades at all sites.
