Vote Lisa Weissman-Ward for Board of Education

Lisa Weissman-Ward was relatively unknown to the parent activist community when she was tapped by the Mayor. She was not active in the recall, and she had not previously been involved in SFUSD governance or volunteerism.

Fortunately, it has become clear to us that the Mayor showed excellent judgment in appointing Lisa. Lisa draws on her experience as an educator to understand that excellence and equity must reinforce each other in academic achievement: this is a welcome change from the attitude of the previous Board, which wrongly saw excellence and equity as being competing values.

Lisa’s experience as an educator also informs her understanding of the importance of transforming SFUSD as a workplace for educators – not just for the teachers, but also for the students. She understands that a relentless focus on improving student outcomes relies upon well trained, highly qualified teachers to work under satisfactory conditions.

Like Ann and Lainie, Lisa has supported the reforms to how the Board of Education operates, so that they focus on their responsibilities and hold the new Superintendent appropriately accountable for doing his job.

Lisa is smart and sensible, and she brings the right priorities to the role. She fully supports the positive reforms of the Board of Education, and is a strong ally for students, parents and teachers alike. Families for San Francisco enthusiastically endorses Lisa Weissman-Ward for the Board of Education.
